Earlier last month, Boeing experienced an increase in orders, following a huge deal with South Airlines that helped to offset another round of canceled flight plans for its 737 Max Airliner.

Boeing on Tuesday was quoted saying that it received 196 orders in March alone. These orders included the 100 from Southwest while losing 156 orders to cancellations. Turkish Airlines got rid of a commitment for 50 Max Jets, where they replaced some with options.

In total, the net gain of the previous 40 orders led to the increase in Boeing’s first-quarter total to 76 orders.

In the recent past, Boeing has experienced a decrease in orders for the last two years. First, the setback was accelerated by the 737 Max Jets where two crashed in a grizzly accident last year. Secondly, was the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that brought global flight travel to a standstill, where airline demands went to an all-time low.

Luckily, flight travel is slowly picking up with recent developments in the fight against COVID-19. The roll-out of effective vaccines is one such factor that has contributed to the rising number of tickets last month. However, the vaccine numbers remain far below pre-pandemic levels.

For example, in the U.S alone, around 1.5 million people have passed through airport checkpoints this month. This is a very low figure compared to the average 2.3 million people per day recorded in April 2019.

Boeing requires sustained growth in travel to push the market for replacement planes, and eventual growth with its air flight clients.

This Chicago-based manufacturer delivered on 29 commercial planes in April with 7 large body planes, 19 Maxes, and three 737s for military use. On the other hand, American Airlines on Tuesday said in a press release that it had agreed on terms with Boeing to defer the delivery of 19 787 planes, and 18 Max Jets by up to two years.

American, another major client for Boeing, made the disclosure stating it expected a first-quarter loss of up to $1.3 billion. Yet, Boeing shares rose by 1.5%

In a new study by the CDC, they have analyzed Covid-19 exposure data and have found that to decrease the likelihood of catching the virus on an airplane where you have heightened risk, is to keep the middle seats on a plane vacant to increase the amount of space between individual passengers. When doing this action, the risk of catching the virus on an airplane decreases by a large margin around 23% to 57% on single-aisle and twin-aisle airplanes.

According to the CDC, the small distance between passengers in the aircraft reduces exposure from virus particles coming into the passenger’s eyes or mouths, putting them at a safe distance away from the virus. With the addition of wearing a mask and other additional precautions over their face, passengers have a low chance of contracting the virus.

To come to this conclusion, the CDC calculated and used laboratory-generated models to demonstrate a visual example of where the virus particles are in comparison to the passengers, as well as the contact that Bacteriophages have in virus particles. The conclusion stated that the distance between other passengers who may have the virus will still be deemed as a safe distance, as the Bacteriophages will eliminate the virus particles, making the virus weaker, and the distance is too far to affect the passenger and enter their body.

The risk of contracting the virus was reduced to a 50% margin in which the example model demonstrated 6 passengers sitting on the left side of the plane, while another 6 passengers who showed symptoms of the Covid-19 virus sat on the other side of the plane. While sitting anywhere near in proximity to an individual with Covid-19 symptoms is dangerous, there was a far less chance of contracting the virus with the vacant seat experiment in place.

In regards to worries of catching the Covid-19 virus when boarding public aircraft with other individuals that may or may not show symptoms, FlexAir Charters provides safety and comfort with our services in finding chartering services for individuals who wish to fly safe using a private jet and other aerospace transportation services. We offer corporate air charters and other charters that can be assigned to our clients who wish to fly privately with a group of people who they know won’t provide a risk of the virus.

The wearing of masks has played a crucial role in minimizing the spread of COVID-19 on airplanes. But in the past, we have witnessed that safety policies enacted on airplanes are rarely reversed. Some of the policies though make sense. For instance, the reinforcement of the cockpit, which is now a permanent solution, has made air travel very safe.

But let’s explore some policies that seem archaic.

  • Passengers are not permitted to take liquids that go above 100ml on the plane due to the fear it might be an explosive
  • Taking off shoes at security checkpoints because of a “shoe bomber” attempt in 2001
  • Passenger not allowed to gather near lavatories or exits on US-bound flights
  • Whenever a pilot wants to use the bathroom a cart has to be used to block the way

Masks are a Necessary Evil

With the pandemic ravaging the world, masks have played a crucial role in protecting passengers. COVID-19 has changed the way people interact. For starters, public gatherings scare many people I included. Social distancing is a norm and sanitization is a basic need.

While am an introvert, I would like to believe that Coronavirus has not taken a heavy toll on me as compared to other people. But what I would really like to know, is what will be the fate of wearing masks on planes.

This is because Coronavirus doesn’t seem to be going away, anytime soon. In some countries in Asia, even before COVID-19 hit the world, people were wearing masks.

But from my point of view, I think we should get rid of masks on airplanes for good. But I don’t see this happening any time soon. The policy seems to be here to stay.

In fact, the policy has become a norm and the passengers by now have gotten used to it. Hopefully, let’s hope we will live to see a day when people will not be forced to wear masks in airplanes.

Airlines such as Avelo airlines and Breeze airways are stating that they are going to being catering to travelers by opening up more flight destinations and more flight plans. Due to the release of vaccinations in America, more and more Americans are beginning to feel the need to travel in waves to new areas but can’t find airlines that will greet their demand. Avelo airlines and Breeze airways however are beginning to open up their services en masse to satisfy their clients.

Avelo Airlines states that they would begin flying to 11 destinations from California and that they only plan on adding more and more destinations across the western part of the globe as soon as they can get access to more Boeing 737 jets, as of right now they only have 3 due to the pandemic eliminating the need for aircraft.

Avelo plans on capitalizing on this opportunity of grave amounts of Americans wanting to fly by using its low-cost carrier platforms so that Americans can save costs and go to cheaper airports and use Avelo airlines. Instead of going to the big airports which are less likely to fly as much as they want, Americans use secondary airports to fly and in exchange, Avelo will increase profits in flight with such a large demand.

Breeze Airways also plans on adopting the same system of low-cost carrier flights, but this time by flying to neglected areas with minimal markets, geographic areas that the bigger airlines won’t fly to because of the lack of demand importance in a pandemic.

However, Breeze hasn’t exactly stated when they will begin to open up their operations for their flight plans, they do however know what destinations they will hit first, which is the Southeast, mainly Florida. Breeze Airways plans on capitalizing on seasonal traveling by offering cheap flights to a US state that is mainly known for vacationing.

Avelo Airlines and Breeze Airways are capitalizing on the seasonal prospects of wanting to get out and enjoy the sun, and this too is done by FlexAir charter services through our excellent charter services. We offer individual charter flights through helicopters, private jets, and other forms of aircraft. We also offer corporate air charters and group charters for celebrities and government agencies. If you are concerned about the pandemic and wish to take the safe route, you hire a charter flight instead of worrying about which airline to use.

Boeing had announced six months ago that they were on the verge of selling their local commercial airplane headquarter building in Renton. And now, they have officially confirmed that their Longacres property is up for sale.

According to a statement released to the news outlets on Tuesday, the aerospace giant has already listed the Longacres Campus. The move will undermine the corporate presence in Washington state. This comes as the aerospace giant plans to cut costs that are triggered by the pandemic-related downturn. Longacres, which now sits on 215 acres of land, will join other properties in the Puget Sound region that are currently up for sale. The locations include Everett in the north and Frederickson in the south amongst other large office buildings located in Bellevue and Renton.

In the endeavor, the company plans to dispose of about 2.5 million square feet of office space. More importantly, they wish to conduct a reduction of 7% of overall Boeing’s office space in the region. Over 300 acres of Boeing’s unused land, will also be sold.

Conrad Chun who is the vice president of the Commercial Airplane department shunned the claims that the sale of the property in these locations, was a tactical move for the aerospace giant to gradually withdraw from its Puget Sound roots. He pointed out that Boeing’s Commercial Airplanes headquarters would still be in the same region, but not in the same building.

Some of the other changes that will be instigated after the sale of Longacres Campus will include the relocation of Commercial Airplanes CEO Stan Deal office to overlook the flight line situated at Boeing Field 737 delivery center in Seattle. The office itself has significantly been downsized and it is just a quarter of his initial office size in Longacres.

Other senior Commercial Airplanes leaders will move around or work virtually depending on their schedule.

The Chief Financial Officer Stephanie Pope, Vice President of Human Resources Joelle Denney, and Chun will also have to share an office situated next to Deal’s office.
