A new pilot in Park City, Utah, and another passenger managed to escape death narrowly by landing a small red and white plane on Interstate 80 located in Park City near Jeremy ranch. The incident occurred on Saturday night.
According to the information released to the news outlets, the plane was flying back from Idaho Park to Provo before it was forced to make an emergency landing.
The two people flying this plane had just acquired it and they were just taking it out for a joy ride. According to the Cessna 172 pilot, Jackson Walker, they were en route to Provo when suddenly oil pressure dropped to almost zero, a scenario that triggered the engine to seize functioning.
The pilot said he followed the standard operating procedures while trying to keep calm. And after he made several futile attempts to restart the airplane, that’s when he decided to make an emergency landing on 1-80.
He continued to explain how he made a quick player and then started flashing landing lights to alert the traffic below of his intentions.
The good news is that there was a good Samaritan below who understood the distress call and swerved on the road slowing the traffic and creating room for Jackson to land.
Jackson believes the person had some piloting knowledge that’s why he was able to interpret the flashing landing lights and acted accordingly.
The plane landed safely on the lanes and other road users helped them to push the plane to the side.
A report released by an agent with State Bureau of Investigations Colton Freckleton indicated that nobody inside the aircraft sustained any injuries and the plane was not damaged.
The two people who were on the plane left it by the roadside as it could not be moved at night. This was one of those occurrences that you don’t see every day.
